 For Immediate Release:

The Collab Sessions' Innovative Recording Sessions Changing How Musicians Interact During The Pandemic

These one-song-one-day events bring musicians from different genres and backgrounds together in the studio to collaborate, create, and perform a unique piece of music.

CHICAGO, IL- Feb 6, 2021-  The idea of The Collab Sessions is to bolster our local music scenes by highlighting up-and-coming local musicians through collaborative live recordings.  By recruiting a diverse group of musicians from different styles and giving them a limited amount of time to arrange and record a song (either an original or a cover) each session is guaranteed a unique sound- a distilled amalgamation of that city's culture.

These sessions are not simply about the end result, but about exploring and capturing the process of collaboration amongst creatives- many of whom have never before worked together.  This in turn helps paint a broader picture of the music scene in that locale.  This is a relaunch of the original Collab Session limited event series, which ran in Chicago for five sessions across 2016-2017.  With ambition to expand nationally, The Collab Sessions is picking up in the city where it left off.

"Unfortunately, virtually all live venues in our major cities have been shuttered due to COVID, leaving most musicians unable to perform" explained Co-Founder Andrew Dewar, who also serves as the head audio engineer on the sessions.  "On the flip side, there has never been a better time to provide musicians with a new outlet to create and a new way to perform music with each other live in studio. This is our way of helping bring some relief to these musicians"

"I had never met any of these people; I had never laid eyes on them until today.  I was honestly blown away at just how quickly we all molded together and came together as a unit and as a band," said Jake Fernstrum, who played drums in the second event post-relaunch, which took place in Denver.  "The whole experience was phenomenal."

For the next session, which occurs Saturday Feb 6 at Narwhal studios in Wicker Park, The Collab Sessions will be partnering with Chicago Jazz Magazine, the Green Mill, and six hand -selected musicians to help tell the story of how music in Chicago has evolved to where it is today.
